How Much Time Do You Need to Master Driving?

We understand that starting to drive can be costly. You must pay for tests, get a car, and cover expenses like insurance, tax, and fuel. It makes sense to want to spend as little as possible on driving lessons. The faster you reach the test standard, the less money you have to pay your driving instructor in Port Moody or anywhere in the world. So, how quickly can you learn?

How many driving lessons do you have to take?

There isn't a set number of lessons you must have, and it's not an exact science. However, many driving instructors suggest that around 35-45 hours is a reasonable range. Your learning speed will decide how quickly you reach the test standard.

Everyone learns at their own pace, so you might need fewer hours or a bit more compared to your friends. There's no need to feel embarrassed; the goal is passing the test, not how fast you do it.

Is it a good idea to learn with friends and relatives?

If possible, we suggest practicing what you've learned with your instructor by driving with friends or family. However, there are a few important things to consider:

-          We've all heard those scary stories of Mom or Dad getting upset when things don't go smoothly. This can mess with your driving and make your instructor's job tougher. If your friends or family aren't the calmest people, finding someone else to practice with might be better.

-          The person you pick to drive with privately has probably been driving for a long time. The test they took back then is quite different from today's, and they might have developed some not-so-great habits over the years. While adding some extra practice hours is good, it's not a smart move to replace your instructor completely.

How many lessons should I take each week?

This is a great question we hear every day. Having more lessons each week can help you reach test standards faster, but it's crucial not to overwhelm yourself.

You might have heard about intensive courses, where you take many lessons quickly, and your test is at the end. At Karun Driving School, we believe semi-intensive courses are better. They give you time to understand what you've learned, allow you to relax, and overall, it's a more enjoyable experience.

For most people, 1-2 lessons a week is just right. Each lesson must be two hours, not one. This way, you can cover more in time and consider the travel time to get from your home to where your instructor wants to do the lesson.

I've already taken some lessons, how many more do I need?

Once again, this is a common question for us, and the honest answer is, we don't know.' If you're curious about how many more hours you'll need to reach the test standard, the best thing to do is book an assessment lesson with one of our instructors.

The assessment lesson lasts 1.5 hours, providing your instructor with a good opportunity to evaluate your driving skills. Afterward, they can give you an idea of how many more hours of tuition you might need to prepare for your practical exam.

Does your driving instructor impact how many lessons you need?

Absolutely! Selecting the right instructor or school for learning to drive is crucial. It's not just about the hourly price, special offers, or the car's appearance; it's about finding someone skilled at teaching you the necessary skills to pass.

Building a good rapport with your instructor is vital. Fortunately, all the instructors at Karun Driving School are not only highly qualified but also lovely people.
